U-Pack® Partners with Toys for Tots for Holiday Gift Collection
• Household moving service to provide storage containers for donations nationwide
FORT SMITH, Arkansas, November 24, 2015 — U-Pack®, an ArcBest CorporationSM brand (Nasdaq: ARCB), is partnering with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program this holiday season to provide moving and storage containers for donated gifts at nationwide collection sites.
Although U-Pack has participated in local Toys for Tots drives in the past, 2015 is the first year for the company to contribute on a national level. U-Pack is offering the use of moving and storage containers to drive coordinators in need of storage space to hold the donations received during holiday toy drives.
“It’s a privilege to provide a service to the Marines, given how much they do for us,” said Andrew Schweizer, vice president of U-Pack. “We are honored by the opportunity to support the work Toys for Tots carries out for children in need.”
Toy drives are already in full swing in an effort to provide new toys to the 16 million children living below the poverty level in the United States. Maj. William Hendricks launched Toys for Tots in 1947 by collecting 5,000 toys and distributing them to children in the Los Angeles area with the help of his Marine Corps Reserve Unit. Since then, the program has grown to a lifetime giving total of 494 million toys collected and distributed to over 230 million children, operating in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.
Even with a legacy of successful giving, the Toys for Tots Foundation stresses that a gap still exists among the number of children they are able to distribute toys to and the ultimate goal of distributing a toy to every child in poverty. U-Pack created a Toys for Tots infographic to showcase the rich history of the program and provide useful information on ways to help.
